Paiute ATV Trail

The Paiute ATV Trail is a 272 mile-long loop course that crosses mountain ranges, rugged canyons and deserts. Riders can enter the trail from any point; there is no beginning or end. Mountain bikers are also welcome. Circleville, Marysvale and other towns along the trail allow ATVs on designated streets so riders can go directly from the dirt trail to motels, restaurants, grocery stores and service stations. Wildlife Viewing

Herds of elk, deer and antelope, coyotes, eagles, wild turkeys, and a world of small animals and birds make their homes in the mountains and meadows of Piute County. Mountain goats are sometimes seen in the Tushar Mountains.

Fishing

Mountain lakes and streams in the Fishlake National Forest are stocked with rainbow, brook and cutthroat trout. 

Bryce Canyon

The colorful hoodoos of Bryce Canyon National Park are just a 45 minute drive from Piute County. Hiking, sightseeing, trail rides and photography, as well as cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter are popular activities. 

Buffalo

Domestic buffalo can usually be seen along Highway 89 between Junction and Circleville.

Water Sports

Piute Lake and Otter Creek State Parks offer water sports, boating and fishing in the summer, and ice fishing in the winter. In warm weather, river rafting is available on the Sevier River north of Marysvale.

Otter Creek and Piute Lake State Parks

The magic waters of Otter Creek Reservoir produce some of Utah's largest rainbow, German brown, and cutthroat trout. Boat rentals are available and shoreline fishing is also excellent. It is open all year and winter ice fishing is popular. Piute Lake, located north of Junction, also has excellent fishing. 

Snowmobiling

The surrounding Fishlake National Forest and the towering Tushar Mountains are perfect for snowmobiling and cross country skiing in the winter. 

Horseback Riding & Rodeos

A great way to explore the mountains and forests is on horseback. Junction hosts a weekly jackpot roping event during the summer. Marysvale, home of Cottonwood Downs, has horse races in May, and the Worlds Greatest Little Rodeo in July.

Boating

Boating in Piute Lake and Otter Creek Reservoir is a relaxing way to spend the day. 

Fall Colors

In the autumn, the surrounding forests are ablaze with brilliant golden aspens and deep green pines and spruce. A drive up one of the canyons is a refreshing experience. 

Mountain Recreation

Breathtaking mountains, cool forests, refreshing streams, and cascading waterfalls like Bullion Falls are just short drives from US 89 and the towns in Piute County. Mountain biking, hiking, camping, picnicking, rock hounding and photography are popular summer activities. 

Piute County Courthouse

Located in Junction, the historic building was built in 1903 and used as the Piute County Courthouse until 1997. 

Butch Cassidy Childhood Home

The notorious outlaw Butch Cassidy grew up on a ranch south of Circleville. The old homestead is located along Hwy 89. 

The Silver King Mine

This old gold mine is in the Gold Mountain Mining District which is part of the Tushar Range on the Fishlake National Forest. People have been searching for gold and silver in their gulches and canyons from at least the 1860's.
